Venus Flytrap Dionaea Muscipula Carnivorous Houseplants, 3" Pot.   Beautiful red traps. Growing in a 3" pot.  Flytraps can be a fun and educational plant for kids, schools, or anyone that enjoys unique plants.   Not hard to keep when you know the proper care and lifecycle.  Do well in a full sun window or full/part sun area outdoors.  12 hours of bright light per day with 4 hours being direct sun.   Acidic peat soil must be moist at all times; they can never dry out.  Water as needed with distilled water or rainwater.  Bottom watering is best(set pot in shallow dish of water for several hours).  Replant the traps every season.  Prune any dry or dead traps as needed. Do not fertilize the Venus flytrap.  They will need an occasional insect when they are established several times a year.  Kept outdoors they can catch their own. Indoors you will need to feed them.  Venus flytraps begin a dormancy period in fall ending with new growth in Spring.  Dormancy is triggered by a reduced photo period (less hours of light per day).  Plants will appear to die, this is normal.  They will sprout new growth from the rhizomes buried in the pot.
